Hello David,

I have been playing the guitar for about 3 years now and have recently started playing with the Worship band at church. I am looking to set up a more structured practice plan so that I can get the most out of the limited amount of practice time. I know that I have developed some bad habits that I need to work out (see forum post "Ouch Cramps"), but my biggest nemisis is barre chords. I can't seem to get them right and they frustrate me. I am also looking for some good speed and warmup exercises for myself. Can you possibly help me or point me in the right direction?

Thanks in advance,

Dave, Thank you so much! (repeat this 10xs!!!) After struggling for years trying to play the guitar "By ear" on my own, I finally admitted that I really didnt know what I was doing....and came upon a lesson by you for Pink FLoyds "Wish you were here". I thought i knew how to play the song ...HA! WRONG!!! I had so much fun learning it the right way! I felt like a bell went off inside my head, and that bell said..."You Big Dummy! There is an easy, right way to learn the guitar and You have finally found it!". Anyway, you really made it interesting, and I appreciate what you do. Pass it on Brother! You got a good Constitution! Keep up the great work! Bill in Atlanta

I live in the UK, in my 40's, been playing (sort of) just over a year, i found your lesson (a horse with no name) unbelievably easy when i stumbled upon Guitarnoise.com Thanks very much. If only i could continue to play it and sing at the same time! my hands seams to start playing something completly different!

All the best,

Tom

Thx once again.

Hello David,

Great job on the opnline lessons. I feel guilty for learning so much, so fast without paying anyone. I guess you just enjoy it, and that's refreshing.

I'm a law student at the University of Toronto, and will be a lawyer next year. (That's what I love.) If there's anything I can do to return the favor, let me know.

jm

P.S. - Great job on the grammar on 'guitarnoise' - I can tell you take the time to edit.

Hi Mike

I don’t normally do TABs by request. There are quite a number of folks who do this (usually for a fee, by the way), as you can easily discoverd by doing a search for “Guitar Tablature by request.” Currently my work schedule makes it pretty hard to handle anything besides the lessons I’m writing for Guitar Noise and for the folks at String Letter Publishing.

You should, if you’re up to it, try giving yourself the challenge of figuring it out by ear. It may seem like an impossible task, but like anything else concerning the guitar (or music or life for that matter), it is a skill you can develop with practice and patience.

Sorry not to be of more help.

Peace

Thanks for your kind words. I'm not certain I'd be the best person to give advice on blogging as I don't spend anywhere near the time on it as I probably should!

Looking forward to chatting with you again soon.
