Staying Connected

Hello to all

The final show of FOFfest 2009 took place yesterday evening and it was a wonderful, incredible time. Infinity Hall is a great place to play and Fred Schane did a masterful job on the sound. Not at all easy given the lack of prep time and the sheer number of musicians performing.

By the way, if you want to see some photos from the various shows at FODfest, check out them out at the FODfest Facebook page.

Besides the music, FODfest is a celebration of friendship and of how music both creates and fosters these friendships that last a lifetime. Being a part of Guitar Noise for almost ten years now, I can certainly attest to how people from all over the world are able to interact in friendship and harmony to learn and share music with each other. It’s actually hard to not be in awe of how many people I know through music and how many new people I get to meet through teaching, writing and performing.

The connections one makes, the relationships that music forges, don’t last without effort. For every friendship made there are certainly more than a few others that have fallen by the wayside, some never to be renewed. It’s a sad part of all our lives, but maybe it’s something we can all get better at. In this digital / Internet age there are certainly ways of keeping in contact, although a lot of it, including blogs like mine, is tuly more illusionary than one thinks. It’s hard to find a balance between real contact and “social networking” and ultimately each person has to do the best he or she can with the time and resources available.

Maybe the next time I think of emailing someone, I’ll call instead. That’s a good start.

Peace
