New “Basics” Lesson in January 2006 Acoustic Guitar Magazine

Hello to all!

In the latest issue of Acoustic Guitar Magazine, you’ll find John Hammond on the cover (and a great blues slide guitar lesson with him) and a wonderful piece on John Prine.

Plus I’ve got a new lesson in the Basics section of the magazine. It’s called “Sustained-Note Chords” and it explores the uses of sustained notes to create new chords and new chord voicings. As a bonus (and as a demonstration), there’s a short transcription of Green Day’s Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life) that you can learn and play.

I hope you enjoy it!

Peace

    David,

I am Medevac Pilot stationed in Iraq. A couple of us recently purchased guitars so that we can learn how to play on our off days. Anyway I was on the internet looking for some instruction and came across Guitar noise. I couldn’t believe it when I read you were from Great Barrington, MA. I am from Lee and one of our mechanics is from Great Barrington. We will be learning guitar together with the help of your instruction. Thanks for making this available to people, it will make a huge difference in how we learn how to play guitar.

    Mr. Hodge,

You are a true Buddha. A real true Western Buddha. What are your lessons but patience and compassion and cosmic humor? It’s all much appreciated. This is meant in complete seriousness. I am a young mystic just learning to play guitar.

May the Universe continue to bless you.
